The True definition of Web 2.0

Being that OnlyWire is in the web 2.0 space, I would like to hear from you on what you feel is the best definition of Web 2.0.

I realize web 2.0 is defined by Wikipedia as "a term describing changing trends in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to enhance creativity, secure information sharing, collaboration and functionality of the web. Web 2.0 concepts have led to the development and evolution of web-based communities and its hosted services, such as social-networking sites, video sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies." They also quotes Tom O'Reilly stating "Web 2.0 is the business revolution in computer industry caused by the move to the Internet as platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform".

Some of the traffic ranking sites rank the Top 2 web 2.0 sites as: YouTube and myspace (Rev2.org and Statsaholic) and I think both of these companies clearly define web 2.0 - utilizing the internet as a platform for sharing and collaboration.

What are your thoughts? Let me know your comments below.

The Best Web Traffic Ranking sites

The more sites I find through my web research - that have Web Traffic Ranking services - I realize there are quite a few available (besides just Alexa).

I have even found a few blogs that feel Alexa is not accurate and should only be used as a barometer of your site's traffic and not the true gage. Through my research I have found a few sites that offer similar services and the "jury is still out" as to who provides the best service.

The following are a few I found of value (in no particular order):
SocialMeter
URLTrends
StatsAholic
Compete.com
Quantcast

I would be interested in hearing what the readers of my blog feel are the best sites for Web Traffic Rankings. Let me know what your thoughts are by adding your comments below.

Social Bookmarking Companies addressing Spam Issues

It has come to my attention over the past few months (through user feed-back and my own research), that a Social Bookmarking Site (Linkatopia) and some online posts think OnlyWire ("OW") is a Spamming Tool. I want to use this forum to address this issue.

OnlyWire promotes a Spam Free environment and we take this subject very serious. OnlyWire prevents Spamming by implementing throttle control, email verification, and limits on users accounts.
Its unfortunate that a few are able to get around our controls, break the rules and abuse the system. We try to be very proactive and do everything we can to prevent it - including disabling accounts.

Unfortunately, Linktopia feels the need to advise their new users on their sign-up page wwwlinkatopia.com/signup_part1 not to use the OW service and even misquote the OW terms of service. I feel this is not only unprofessional, but not the best business practice. I have tried to contact them direct to discuss their issues, but they do not respond to my requests.

I use them as an example as they seem to be blatant about pointing the finger at the provider and not the violating user. I believe this type of attack would be similar to Yahoo placing a message on their Mail sign up page for their new users not to use Google mail as it is a spamming tool. It would be a bit ridiculous to point the finger at the provider and not the violator - don't you think?

To end this post and as Linktopia states on their site, "Can't we all just get along?", OnlyWire is constantly trying to prevent spam and with the support of others in our space, I think we can. We are open to resolving this issue with Linktopia and any others. Linktopia provides a very valuable service and we would like to continue supporting their service.

If you have any comments on this issue or any suggestions on how we can further prevent spam - please contact me direct at rrouland@onlywire.com or comment below.

OnlyWire: Bookmark and Share Button

The OnlyWire ("OW") Bookmark and Share Button you see on my page to the right is brand new and a recent feature enhancement with the OW 2.0 launch. It is a really cool tool that is very easy to use as it allows anyone that visits my site to click the button and:
  1. Bookmark my Post to all of their bookmarking sites with the click of one button, and
  2. email my post to anyone they want to send it to.
The Button is going to be an extremely useful tool for all OW users who embed it into their website because it will allow their site visitors to:
  1. Auto post their web content to their bookmarking sites,
  2. Share the content via email with others, and
  3. Ultimately, drive more traffic back to this blog!

Its extremely quick and easy and the best of Web 2.0!

In reality, its the next generation of the other buttons available like "Addthis" or "Sharethis" as their tools do not provide auto links and you have to post manually.

Let me know your comments and feed-back of this Bookmark and Share Button.

OnlyWire 2.0 Launch

The OnlyWire ("OW") team is proud to announce the launch of OnlyWire 2.0.

We have made many improvements to OnlyWire and with these many new enhancements we are launching OnlyWire 2.0. It is now BETTER and FASTER using a stable, secure and optimized platform for enhanced performance and reliability.

Some of the recent improvements include: faster submission processes, increased bookmark links and improved functionality (to mention just a few). I am very proud of these enhancements.

Over the past year, OnlyWire has become the most popular bookmark submission tool on the Internet and has won some notable acclaim. It also became a valuable member of SNiPiTRON, LLC, a web-based software development company that provides Bookmarking and Collaboration tools for capturing, organizing and sharing bookmarks, content, and files with clients, co-workers and friends. With the SNiPiTRON platform, OnlyWire has now become the Number One Bookmarking Tool on the web.
